More than 130 million people in Latin America and the Caribbean lack access to safe drinking water, and as a result, spend as much as 10 percent of their incomes on bottled water. Because of this, the number of illegal bottlers has increased, and their bottled water has been found to have unsafe levels of bacteria. The Latin American Bottled Water Association was developed to group all of the bottlers, distributors, and providers to implement new regulations, laws, and standards that assure clean, safe water is provided to the public.
